Job Description

Summary

Sponsorship Officer

The UCL/UCLH Joint Research Office (Research and Development) is undergoing an exciting period of expansion and development and is responsible for managing a large, internationally-recognised portfolio of research activity. The focus is on translational and clinical research - taking advances in basic medical research out of the laboratory and into the clinical setting to directly benefit patient care. The JRO currently manages an extensive portfolio (2000+ studies) of research and this role will involve working with other JRO teams to ensure the highest quality standards are achieved in relation to Research Management and Governance and Sponsorship requirements.

The post-holder will be based at the UCL/UCLH Joint Research Office (JRO) and will act as a facilitator in the review of research studies sponsored by UCL or UCLH (with the exception of Clinical Trials of Medicinal Products).

The post-holder will ensure UCL and UCLH studies supported from grant application, through to sponsorship approval and initiation at sites. The post holder will ensure studies meet regulatory and other obligations as Sponsor. The post-holder will be required to work autonomously and will be required to manage their own day-to-day workload, prioritising as needed.

The portfolio for which this post holder is responsible will include (but is not restricted to) surgical and interventional studies, basic science studies involving procedures with human participants, observational studies, studies administering questionnaires/interviews, studies involving qualitative methods, studies limited to working with human tissue samples (or other human biological samples), working with data, and research tissue banks, and databases.

In addition, the post-holder will act as a point of contact for all clinical research governance queries from investigators, sponsors and research support staff at UCL and UCLH. Expert knowledge of the Research Governance Framework, Health Research Authority, Human Tissue Act, Data Protection and other regulatory and legal requirements relating to research is required.

The post holder will be required to maintain a good working relationship and a high level of customer service with JRO teams and external stakeholders.
